After we pull your tooth, you’re going to go home and take it easy for the next couple of days. Make sure that you’re not putting too much pressure on yourself. That means no big workouts. Some people even choose to stay home from work for a couple of days. It depends on how the extraction went and what was involved with it but this is a general outline for post tooth extraction.
You want to make sure that you try and stay away from smoking. Eat a soft diet like soups and mashed potatoes. Try and not to use a straw or spit because it can dislodge the clot that’s being formed. You might want to take some painkillers to control the pain after the extraction. The first couple of days is usually when you have the most amount of pain.
Some people don’t have any pain. Some people have a lot. It depends on who you are. You want to make sure that you are very gentle with the area. If you get food stuck in there, you can just gently clean it out with some water. You don’t want to put too much vigorous force on it because that can disturb the clot. You might have some swelling and that usually goes away with time. Most people can heal pretty well after tooth extraction.
